Educational Q&A

The verse elevates spiritual realization and ascetic stature by praising a brahma-vit (knower of Brahman) as unmatched in longevity, while still acknowledging Brahmā as uniquely supreme—thus affirming both reverence for cosmic order and honor for realized sages.

Vaiśaṃpāyana, narrating the episode, addresses a revered sage as “best knower of Brahman,” stating that except for Brahmā (Parameṣṭhin), no one equals him in length of life—an honorific preface that underscores the sage’s extraordinary status.
