Vaiśampāyana said: “Then, at that time, I duly took refuge in that very deity—worthy of choice and a giver of boons—seeking him with my mind and through my actions as well. O Yudhiṣṭhira, I kept running about incessantly and remained anxious; and when, even after wandering for many years, I could not find the end of that great soul’s body, I surrendered in proper form to that boon-bestowing, most venerable god.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
When human effort and prolonged searching reach their limit, one should turn—duly and wholeheartedly—to a worthy refuge. The verse emphasizes disciplined surrender (vidhivat) and inner-outer alignment: seeking with mind and with action.
Vaiśampāyana reports that after long, anxious wandering and failing to find the end or outcome connected with a great being’s body, he formally takes refuge in a boon-giving, venerable deity, addressing Yudhiṣṭhira as the listener.
