Having respectfully saluted that great-souled sage, a strict keeper of vows, they all stood before him. The muni, in turn, accepted their reverence and honored them according to custom with offerings such as arghya and the like.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse highlights dharma expressed as mutual respect: visitors show humility by saluting a disciplined sage, and the sage responds by honoring them through proper hospitality (arghya and related offerings). Reverence and reception are presented as complementary ethical duties.
A group approaches a revered, vow-observing sage, offers salutations, and stands respectfully. The sage then performs the customary reception by offering arghya and other items, formally welcoming and honoring them.
