Sarasvatī–Tārkṣya Saṃvāda: Agnihotra-vidhi, Dāna-phala, and Mokṣa-prasaṅga (सरस्वती–तार्क्ष्यसंवादः)
निर्मलानि शरीराणि विशुद्धानि शरीरिणाम् । ससर्ज धर्मतन्त्राणि पूर्वोत्पन्न: प्रजापति:
nirmalāni śarīrāṇi viśuddhāni śarīriṇām | sasarja dharmatantṛāṇi pūrvotpannaḥ prajāpatiḥ ||
Mārkaṇḍeya said: “For embodied beings, Prajāpati—who had arisen first—brought forth bodies that were spotless and pure, and he also established the ordered systems of dharma (the regulating frameworks of right conduct and cosmic law).”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse links ethical order (dharma) with the very structure of creation: the primordial progenitor not only forms pure bodies for beings but also institutes dharma-frameworks, implying that moral law is foundational to life and society, not a later human invention.
Mārkaṇḍeya, speaking within his discourse, describes an early cosmogonic moment: Prajāpati, as the first-arisen creator, generates pure embodied forms and simultaneously sets up the governing systems of dharma that guide beings’ conduct and sustain order.
