Vaiśampāyana uvāca | tasyāṃ rātryāṃ vyatītāyāṃ dharmarājo yudhiṣṭhiraḥ | utthāyāvaśyakāryāṇi kṛtavān bhrātṛbhiḥ saha ||
Vaiśampāyana said: When that night had passed, Dharmarāja Yudhiṣṭhira rose and, together with his brothers, duly completed the necessary daily duties—an image of disciplined kingship, where right conduct is maintained even amid hardship and impending conflict.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even in exile and uncertainty, Yudhiṣṭhira models steadiness in dharma: one should not abandon obligatory duties and self-discipline when circumstances are difficult.
After the night ends, Yudhiṣṭhira rises and, with his brothers, completes the required daily observances—setting the scene for the next events in the chapter.
