Arjuna’s Arrival and Reunion on the Sacred Mountain
vaiśampāyana uvāca | śāsanaṃ satataṃ cakrus tathaiva bharatarṣabhāḥ | hatvā rakṣaḥ kṣitiṃ prāpya kṛtyeva nipapāta ha | taṃ rākṣasaṃ bhīmabalaṃ bhīmasenena pātitam |
Vaiśampāyana said: O bull-like heroes of the Bharata line, the Pāṇḍavas continually carried out his command just as instructed. Having slain the rākṣasa, they regained safety on the earth; and that demon, struck down by Bhīmasena, fell to the ground like a manifested Kṛtyā (a conjured destructive force). All beings saw that dreadful, immensely powerful rākṣasa felled by Bhīma, as though a lion had brought down a bull. Seeing him dead upon the earth, the surviving night-roamers raised a terrifying cry and fled toward the eastern quarter.
Righteous strength is shown as protective and disciplined: the Pāṇḍavas act in obedience to proper instruction (śāsana) and use force to remove a violent threat. The episode frames martial power as ethically justified when it restores safety and restrains destructive beings.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that the Pāṇḍavas follow the given command, Bhīmasena strikes down a terrifying, powerful rākṣasa (likened to a Kṛtyā falling), and the remaining night-roamers flee eastward in panic after witnessing the demon’s death.
