hanūmān uvāca—śatrudamana pāṇḍunandana! tava manasi mama paricayaṃ prāptuṃ yat kautūhalaṃ vartate, tasya śāntyai sarvāḥ kathā vistareṇa śṛṇu. ahaṃ kesariṇaḥ kṣetre vāyunā jagadāyuṣā jātaḥ, kamalapatrākṣa hanūmān nāma vānaraḥ.
Hanuman said: “O subduer of foes, O son of Pandu! Since your mind is eager to know who I am, listen in detail so that your curiosity may be set at rest. I was born in the domain of Kesarin, begotten by Vayu—the life-breath of the world. O lotus-eyed Bhima, my name is Hanuman, foremost among the vanaras.”
True strength is grounded in self-knowledge and rightful lineage: Hanuman calms Bhima’s curiosity by stating his identity plainly, linking his power to Vayu (the universal life-breath) and to disciplined purpose rather than mere pride.
During Bhima’s encounter with Hanuman in the forest, Hanuman begins his formal self-introduction, explaining his birth from Vayu in Kesarin’s domain and declaring his name, thereby preparing Bhima for further instruction and guidance.
