Bhīmasena–Hanūmān Saṃvāda: The Tail Test and the Divine Path

Hanūmān uvāca: kimarthaṁ sarujas te ’haṁ sukha-suptaḥ prabodhitaḥ? nanu nāma tvayā kāryā dayā bhūteṣu jānatā.

Hanuman said, “Why have you awakened me, though I am unwell and was sleeping comfortably? Surely, as one who knows what is right, you ought to show compassion toward all living beings.”

Educational Q&A

A wise person should practice compassion (dayā) toward all beings; even small acts like disturbing someone unnecessarily are framed as lapses in considerate, dharmic conduct.

Hanuman, who had been resting while unwell, questions why he was awakened and uses the moment to remind the other party that a discerning person should be compassionate to living creatures.
