Educational Q&A

As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it frames the episode within the discipline of tīrtha-yātrā (pilgrimage), implying that ethical refinement and inner purification are pursued through sacred travel, restraint, and reverence for holy places.

The narrator’s colophon formally closes the chapter, identifying its placement in the Mahābhārata (Vana Parva → Tīrtha-yātrā Parva) and specifying the episode theme: Lomāśa’s pilgrimage and the entry into the Gandhamādana region.
