Yudhiṣṭhira–Bhīma Dialogue on the Gandhamādana–Himavat Ascent
Yudhiṣṭhira uvāca — Yamajau cāpi bhadraṁ te naitad anyatra vidyate | balaṁ tava yaśas caiva dharmaḥ kīrtiś ca vardhatām ||
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “Blessings upon you. Even with the twin brothers, this resolve is found in no one else. May your strength increase; may your fame increase; and may your dharma and renown grow ever greater.”
True strength is not merely physical power but the capacity to uphold dharma and earn lasting kīrti (good renown). Yudhiṣṭhira blesses and affirms that courageous responsibility—carrying others’ burdens—should lead to growth in strength, fame, righteousness, and reputation.
In the forest-exile context of the Vana Parva, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses a brother’s exceptional resolve regarding the twins (Nakula and Sahadeva), praising that such determination is rare and offering a benediction that his bala, yaśas, dharma, and kīrti may increase.
