Aṣṭāvakra–Bandi Vāda at Janaka’s Assembly

Numerical Cosmology and Restitution

इति श्रीमहाभारते वनपर्वणि तीर्थयात्रापर्वणि लोमशतीर्थयात्रायामष्टावक्रीये त्रयस्त्रिंयदधिकशततमो<ध्याय:

iti śrīmahābhārate vanaparvaṇi tīrthayātrāparvaṇi lomaśatīrthayātrāyām aṣṭāvakrīye trayastriṃśadadhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ

Thus ends, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Vana Parva, in the section on pilgrimage (Tīrtha-yātrā Parva), in the account of Lomasa’s pilgrimage, in the episode concerning Aṣṭāvakra, the one-hundred-and-thirty-third chapter. This closing colophon places the teaching and the tale within the larger ethical frame of pilgrimage: learning through sacred travel, dialogue, and exemplary conduct.

Educational Q&A

This verse is a colophon rather than a doctrinal statement: it teaches by framing—placing the preceding discourse within the dharmic practice of tīrtha-yātrā (pilgrimage), where ethical refinement and insight are gained through sacred travel and instructive encounters.

The chapter concludes. The text formally marks its location: in the Mahābhārata’s Vana Parva, within the pilgrimage section narrated in connection with Lomasa’s tīrtha-yātrā, specifically in the Aṣṭāvakra-related episode, identifying this as the 133rd chapter.
