Akṛtavraṇa’s Account Begins: Gādhi–Satyavatī–Ṛcīka and the Bhārgava Lineage Prelude
सहस्र॑ं वाजिनामेकं शुल्कार्थ मे प्रदीयताम् तस्मै प्रादात् सहस््न॑ं वै वाजिनां वरुणस्तदा
sahasraṁ vājinām ekaṁ śulkārthaṁ me pradīyatām | tasmai prādāt sahasraṁ vai vājināṁ varuṇas tadā ||
Akṛtavraṇa said, “Let a thousand horses be given to me as the śulka, the bride-price.” Thereupon Varuṇa, at that time, indeed granted him a thousand horses. Thus is it shown that even worldly compacts—here, the formal price bound to marriage—are fulfilled through divine patronage, and that a demand once pledged and accepted is met without deceit.
