Nāvyāśrama-nirmāṇa and Ṛśyaśṛṅga’s Distraction
Iti prakāraḥ Śrīmahābhārata-Vanaparvaṇi antargate Tīrthayātrāparvaṇi Lomaśatīrthayātrā-prasaṅge Ṛṣyaśṛṅgopākhyāna-viṣayaka ekaśata-ekādaśo 'dhyāyaḥ pūrṇaḥ.
Thus ends the one hundred and eleventh chapter of the Mahābhārata’s Vana Parva, within the Tīrtha-yātrā Parva, in the context of Lomāśa’s pilgrimage narrative, dealing with the episode of Ṛṣyaśṛṅga. The chapter’s conclusion signals a transition: the sacred journey continues, and the listener is invited to carry forward the ethical resonance of the tale—how purity of conduct, disciplined life, and the power of righteous influence can shape events and restore order.

As a colophon, the verse primarily marks closure, but it also reinforces the Mahābhārata’s method of teaching dharma through pilgrimage framing and illustrative sub-tales: sacred travel and remembered exemplars (like Ṛṣyaśṛṅga) are used to cultivate restraint, purity, and right conduct, suggesting that ethical transformation is supported by both place (tīrtha) and narrative memory (upākhyāna).
The narrator (Lomāśa) has concluded the Ṛṣyaśṛṅga episode within the broader Tīrtha-yātrā (pilgrimage) account in Vana Parva. This line functions as the chapter-ending notice, indicating that Adhyāya 111 is complete and the pilgrimage narration will proceed to the next segment.
