Ṛśyaśṛṅgopākhyāna-praveśaḥ — Lomāśa narrates the origins of Ṛśyaśṛṅga and the Anga drought (ऋश्यशृङ्गोपाख्यान-प्रवेशः)

The aged woman said, “O great king, I will strive to bring that treasure of asceticism (the sage’s son) here. But you must grant me leave to make the arrangements I deem necessary for this purpose. If my wish is fulfilled, I will be able to succeed in bringing Ṛśyaśṛṅga, the sage’s son, to this place.” The king then authorized the arrangements according to her desire.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights responsible action within dharma: even when pursuing a goal believed beneficial, one should seek proper authorization and act within the bounds of legitimate permission, especially in matters involving a king’s resources and public order.

Lomaśa declares an intention to bring the ascetic Ṛśyaśṛṅga, but requests the king’s consent to implement whatever arrangements are needed. The king agrees and grants permission for those preparations.
