न चैतानधिजग्मुस्ते समुद्र समुपाश्रितान् । श्रमं जग्मुश्न परममाजग्मु: क्षयमेव च,परंतु समुद्रमें छिपे हुए दानवोंको वे पकड़ नहीं पाते। उन्होंने बहुत परिश्रम किया और अन्तमें थककर वे पुनः अपने घरको ही लौट आये
na caitān adhijagmus te samudra-samupāśritān | śramaṃ jagmuś ca paramaṃ ājagmuḥ kṣayam eva ca ||
But they could not find those demons who had taken refuge in the ocean. They exerted themselves to the utmost; yet in the end they only met with exhaustion, and, worn out, returned again to their own homes.
लोगश उवाच
Extreme effort without right means, right knowledge, or favorable conditions may end only in exhaustion; ethical success (dharma-siddhi) requires discernment, not merely relentless pursuit.
A group searches for beings who have concealed themselves by taking refuge in the ocean, but fails to capture or locate them; after intense exertion, they become worn out and return home.
