Devas and Viṣṇu on the Kāleyas; Approach to Agastya

Iti prakāraṁ Śrīmahābhārate Vanaparvake antargataṁ Tīrthayātrāparvaṇi Lomaśatīrthayātrāprasange vajranirmāṇakathanaviṣayakaḥ śatamo 'dhyāyaḥ pūrṇaḥ.

Thus ends the hundredth chapter of the Mahābhārata’s Vana Parva, within the Tīrtha-yātrā section: in the context of Lomāśa’s pilgrimage narrative, the chapter dealing with the account of the making of the thunderbolt (vajra) is concluded. The colophon signals a transition, framing the preceding material as sacred travel-instruction and moral exemplum tied to the power of austerity and righteous purpose.

Educational Q&A

As a colophon, the line chiefly marks closure and frames the preceding narrative as part of a pilgrimage discourse. In ethical terms, it points to the Mahābhārata’s recurring idea that sacred travel and listening to exemplary accounts (here, the making of the vajra) are meant to cultivate dharma—discipline, reverence for holy places, and respect for the moral power of tapas and righteous intent.

This is an end-of-chapter notice: it states that the hundredth chapter—within the Vana Parva’s Tīrtha-yātrā section, during Lomāśa’s pilgrimage narration, and focused on the account of the vajra’s making—has been completed.
