Nārada said: “O Mātali, here dwell the Asuras called Kālakhajja, born from the feet of Bhagavān Viṣṇu; and also the Nairṛtas and Yātudhānas—terrible, tusked, swift as the advancing wind, mighty in prowess and endowed with powers of illusion—who are said to have arisen from the feet of Brahmā.”

Educational Q&A

The verse frames even terrifying, illusion-wielding beings as arising within a divinely structured cosmos; therefore, ethical clarity (dharma) and discernment are essential when confronting raw power, fear, or magical display.

Nārada addresses Mātali and describes the inhabitants of a particular city/region: specific Asuras (Kālakhajja) and other demonic classes (Nairṛtas, Yātudhānas), noting their formidable nature and their mythic origins from the feet of Viṣṇu and Brahmā.
