Vaiśampāyana said: Hearing Vidura’s words, the Supreme Person—calm and receptive—spoke thus. The Blessed Lord, Madhusūdana (Kṛṣṇa), replied by honoring Vidura’s wise, well-wishing counsel as fitting speech, grounded in dharma and practical good sense, offered with the affection of a parent.

Educational Q&A

Wise counsel should be received with humility, and speech between well-wishers should be truthful and aligned with dharma and practical welfare (artha). The verse highlights ethical communication: fitting words, spoken from goodwill, deserve respectful hearing.

In the Udyoga Parva’s lead-up to war, Vidura has spoken to Kṛṣṇa with affectionate, principled advice. Vaiśampāyana narrates that Kṛṣṇa, composed and receptive, begins his response—setting the stage for a dharma-grounded discussion about reconciliation and right action.
