Shloka 53

इन्द्रस्य दुःखप्राप्तिः—त्रिशिरोवधः, वृत्रोत्पत्तिः, जृम्भिकाजननम्

Indra’s Distress: Slaying of Triśiras, Birth of Vṛtra, and the Origin of Yawning

असृजंस्ते महासत्त्वा जृम्भिकां वृत्रनाशिनीम्‌ । विजृम्भमाणस्य ततो वृत्रस्यास्थादपावृतात्‌,तब उन महासत्त्वशाली देवताओंने जँभाईकी सृष्टि की, जो वृत्रासुरका नाश करनेवाली थी। जँभाई लेते समय जब वृत्रासुरने अपना मुख फैलाया, तब बलनाशक इन्द्र अपने अंगोंको समेटकर बाहर निकल आये। तभीसे सब लोगोंके प्राणोंमें जुम्भाशक्तिका निवास हो गया

asṛjaṃs te mahāsattvā jṛmbhikāṃ vṛtranāśinīm | vijṛmbhamāṇasya tato vṛtrasyāsthād apāvṛtāt ||

Then those mighty gods brought forth the power of yawning (jṛmbhikā), destined to destroy Vṛtra. As Vṛtra yawned and stretched his mouth wide, Indra—slayer of Bala—drew in his limbs and slipped out from the opened mouth. From that event onward, the force that causes yawning came to dwell in the breaths of all living beings.
