Vaiśampāyana said: “He is compassionate toward all beings, modest and self-effacing, a great knower of weapons; gentle and delicate in disposition, righteous in conduct, and especially dear to me. O Madhusūdana Kṛṣṇa, tell me the news of that heroic Sahadeva, the son of Mādrī—an eminent archer who shines on the battlefield, who serves all his brothers, who is skilled in discerning dharma and artha, and who is in the vigor of youth. His wholesome conduct is praised by all his brothers; he is devoted to his elder brother, a leader in wars, and ever intent on serving me. Tell me about him.”
