Educational Q&A

Public and political legitimacy rests on dharma and truthfulness: when one speaks and acts righteously, others recognize it; conversely, greed-driven conduct becomes evident and is morally condemned.

Yudhiṣṭhira explains that observers—especially kings and leaders—will judge the parties by their conduct: they will be convinced of Yudhiṣṭhira’s righteousness and truthfulness, and they will also conclude that Duryodhana’s wrongdoing stems from greed.
