वाम्भिस्त्वप्रतिरूपाभिरतुदत्‌ त्वां सहानुजम्‌ । श्लाघमान: प्रहृष्ट: सन्‌ भ्रातृभि: सह भाषते,(क्या आप वह दिन भूल गये, जब कि) दुर्योधनने भाइयोंसहित आपको अपने अनुचित वचनोंद्वारा मार्मिक पीड़ा पहुँचायी थी। वह अत्यन्त हर्षसे फ़ूलकर अपनी मिथ्या प्रशंसा करता हुआ अपने भाइयोंके साथ कहता था--“अब पाण्डवोंके पास इस संसारमें “अपनी” कहनेके लिये इतनी-सी भी कोई वस्तु नहीं रह गयी है। केवल नाम और गोत्र बचा है, परंतु वह भी शेष नहीं रहेगा"

vāgbhis tv apratirūpābhir atudat tvāṃ sahānujam | ślāghamānaḥ prahṛṣṭaḥ san bhrātṛbhiḥ saha bhāṣate ||

Yudhiṣṭhira said: “With words that were unseemly and improper, he wounded you and your younger brothers. Exulting in delight, boasting in self-praise, he spoke together with his brothers: ‘Now the Pāṇḍavas have nothing at all in this world that they can call their own. Only the name and lineage remain—and even that will not remain.’”
