“In this matter, our first resolve is this, O Mādhava: that we and they (the Kauravas) should come to a peaceful settlement, become calm and reconciled, and then enjoy that prosperity in common. The ethical priority is concord and shared welfare, not victory through conflict.”
युधिछिर उवाच
Yudhiṣṭhira places dharma in the form of peace and mutual accommodation first: before resorting to war, the righteous priority is reconciliation and a fair sharing of prosperity, achieved through calmness and agreement rather than coercion.
In Udyoga Parva, as negotiations intensify before the Kurukṣetra war, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Kṛṣṇa (Mādhava) and states the Pandavas’ foremost policy: to seek a settlement with the Kauravas so both sides may live peacefully and enjoy the kingdom’s wealth together.
