Dvārakāyāṃ Sāhāyya-vibhāgaḥ (Alliance Allocation at Dvārakā) /
tataḥ pītāmbaradharo jagatsraṣṭā janārdanaḥ | gate duryodhane kṛṣṇaḥ kirīṭinam athābravīt | ayudhyamānaḥ kāṃ buddhim āsthāyāhaṃ vṛtas tvayā |
Then Janārdana, the creator and sustainer of the world, clad in yellow garments, spoke to the diademed Arjuna after Duryodhana had departed: “Pārtha, I will not fight. With what intention and understanding have you chosen me?”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights value-based choice: Arjuna’s selection of Kṛṣṇa is not for physical force but for guidance, legitimacy, and dharmic clarity—suggesting that wise counsel and righteous alignment can outweigh mere military strength.
After Duryodhana departs, Kṛṣṇa turns to Arjuna and reminds him that he will not personally fight, asking what reasoning led Arjuna to choose him—setting up the contrast between choosing an army versus choosing the divine charioteer and counselor.
