Sañjaya’s Knowledge of Keśava and the Discipline of Indriya-nigraha
bhasma kuryāj jagad idaṃ manasaiva janārdanaḥ | na tu kṛtsnaṃ jagac chaktaṃ bhasma kartuṃ janārdanam ||
Sañjaya said: “Janārdana can reduce this entire world to ashes by mere resolve of his mind; but the whole world together has no power to reduce Janārdana to ashes.”

The verse teaches the asymmetry between the Creator/Lord and creation: Kṛṣṇa (Janārdana) is not merely a powerful ally within the world but the transcendent source whose will can dissolve the cosmos, while no aggregate worldly force can overpower him. Ethically, it warns against arrogance in political or martial strength and invites alignment with dharma under divine sovereignty.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war deliberations, Sañjaya speaks to emphasize Kṛṣṇa’s incomparable might. The point is to reframe the coming conflict: victory and destruction are not determined only by armies and strategy, because Kṛṣṇa’s presence represents a decisive, supra-worldly power.
