Drupada said: “He will bring about a rift among Bhīṣma, Droṇa, Kṛpa, and the other elders. Even those hard to sway will end up supporting your words, and by your counsel you will sow division within that senior leadership.”

The verse highlights a key ethical tension in political life: persuasive counsel can fracture even venerable institutions. It warns that manipulating loyalties among respected elders (teachers and guardians) can decisively shift outcomes, raising questions about whether such strategy serves dharma or merely expediency.
Drupada is describing the expected effect of a person’s words and influence: they will win support and create dissension among the Kuru elders—Bhīṣma, Droṇa, Kṛpa, and others—thereby weakening their unified stance at a critical pre-war moment.
