sañjaya uvāca | yadābhimanyuḥ paravīraghātī śaraiḥ parān megha ivābhivarṣan | vigāhitaḥ kṛṣṇasamaḥ kṛtāstraḥ tadā yuddhe dhārtarāṣṭro 'dhyatapsyata ||

Sañjaya said: When Abhimanyu—slayer of enemy heroes—pours down showers of arrows like a rain-cloud and plunges into the opposing host, equal to Kṛṣṇa in prowess and fully trained in the use of weapons, then in that battle the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra will burn inwardly with distress. The verse underscores how true martial excellence, grounded in disciplined skill, can shake the confidence of those who rely on power without righteousness.

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights that disciplined excellence and fearless resolve can morally and psychologically unseat opponents; those driven by mere power or entitlement (here, the Dhārtarāṣṭra side) are inwardly shaken when confronted by genuine merit and courage.

Sañjaya foretells/depicts Abhimanyu entering the enemy formation, showering arrows like a cloudburst and striking down enemy champions; seeing this, Duryodhana (the Dhārtarāṣṭra) becomes intensely distressed and inwardly agitated about the battle.
