Sañjaya said: When a great terror has arisen in the battle, and Sahadeva—stationed upon his chariot, fully armed and skilled in weapons—whirls about in the fight, rushing upon the enemy in every direction, then Duryodhana, son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra, seeing him assail all quarters, will be seized by burning remorse in the midst of war, reflecting on the outcome of his unrighteous course.

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores that adharma-driven ambition culminates in inner torment: when confronted with the righteous side’s prowess and the likely outcome, the wrongdoer (Duryodhana) is consumed by remorse—an ethical warning about the psychological and karmic cost of unjust war.

Sañjaya describes a battlefield scene where Sahadeva, expertly maneuvering on his chariot and attacking in all directions, creates widespread fear; witnessing this, Duryodhana is predicted to feel intense regret in the midst of the war.
