Sanatsujāta on Vedic Learning, Truth (Satya), and the Discipline of Dama–Tyāga–Apramāda

yaḥ prāvṛṇoty avitathena varṇān ṛtaṁ kurvann amṛtaṁ samprayacchan | taṁ manyeta pitaraṁ mātaraṁ ca tasmai na drohāt kṛtam asya jānan ||

Sanatsujāta teaches that the teacher who truly protects the social orders (varṇas) without deceit, who upholds truth and bestows the way to immortality, should be regarded as both father and mother. Remembering the benefit received from such a guide, one should never commit treachery against him.

Educational Q&A

A truthful teacher who protects society and imparts liberating knowledge deserves the reverence due to one’s parents; gratitude requires that one never betray or harm such a benefactor.

In the Sanatsujātīya section of Udyoga Parva, Sanatsujāta instructs (to Dhṛtarāṣṭra) on dharma and higher truth, emphasizing the ethical duty of honoring and not betraying the ācārya who guides one toward immortality.
