Sanatsujāta–Dhṛtarāṣṭra Saṃvāda: Pramāda as Mṛtyu
Chapter 42
अभिजानामि ब्राह्मण व्याख्यातारं विचक्षणम् | यश्छिन्नविचिकित्स: स व्याचष्टे सर्वसंशयान्
abhijānāmi brāhmaṇa vyākhyātāraṃ vicakṣaṇam | yaś chinnavicikitsaḥ sa vyācaṣṭe sarvasaṃśayān ||
Sanatsujāta said: “I recognize as a true brāhmaṇa the discerning expounder—one who knows the reality of the Supreme Self and can interpret the Vedas rightly; whose own doubts have been cut away, and who is able to dispel all doubts in others as well.”
सनत्युजात उवाच
A ‘true brāhmaṇa’ is defined not merely by birth or ritual status but by realized knowledge and competent teaching: one who has personally overcome doubt and can guide others by clear interpretation and insight.
In the Sanatsujātīya section of Udyoga Parva, Sanatsujāta instructs Dhṛtarāṣṭra on spiritual wisdom; here he characterizes the ideal teacher as a discerning interpreter who has cut through doubt and can resolve the doubts of others.
