Vidura urges the Kuru king to make peace with the sons of Pāṇḍu, so that enemies may not find an opening in his house. He emphasizes that the Pāṇḍavas stand firmly upon truth, and therefore the king should restrain Duryodhana—choosing reconciliation and dharma over pride that invites ruin.
विदुर उवाच
A ruler should prioritize dharma and stability by seeking timely peace and by restraining impulsive, pride-driven heirs; otherwise enemies exploit internal divisions and the kingdom collapses.
In the Udyoga Parva’s pre-war negotiations, Vidura counsels Dhṛtarāṣṭra to reconcile with the Pāṇḍavas and to curb Duryodhana, warning that delay and obstinacy create vulnerabilities that adversaries will seize.
