Sudhanvā uvāca—hiraṇyaṃ ca gavāś ca tvaiva astu, Virocana; prāṇayos tu paṇaṃ kṛtvā praśnaṃ pṛcchāva ye viduḥ.
Sudhanvā said: “Let the gold and the cattle remain with you, O Virocana. But let us stake our very lives and put the question to those who truly know.”
Material prizes (gold, cattle) are secondary to सत्य/true knowledge; disputes about truth should be settled by those who genuinely know, and one should be willing to risk personal loss rather than accept falsehood.
Sudhanvā addresses Virocana, relinquishes the material stakes to him, and proposes that they stake their lives and consult competent knowers to resolve the contested question.
