Adhyaya 32: Saṃjaya’s Return, Audience with Dhṛtarāṣṭra, and Ethical Admonition
वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! [संजयके चले जानेपर] महाबुद्धिमान् राजा धृतराष्ट्रने द्वारपालसे कहा--'मैं विदुरसे मिलना चाहता हूँ। उन्हें यहाँ शीघ्र बुला लाओ' ।। प्रहितो धृतराष्ट्रेण दूत: क्षत्तारमब्रवीत् । ईश्वरस्त्वां महाराजो महाप्राज्ञ दिदृक्षति,विदुर और धृतराष्ट्र धृतराष्ट्रका भेजा हुआ वह दूत जाकर विदुरसे बोला--“महामते! हमारे स्वामी महाराज धृतराष्ट्र आपसे मिलना चाहते हैं!
vaiśampāyana uvāca | prahito dhṛtarāṣṭreṇa dūtaḥ kṣattāram abravīt | īśvaras tvāṃ mahārājo mahāprajña didṛkṣati ||
Vaiśampāyana said: Sent by Dhṛtarāṣṭra, a messenger went and spoke to Vidura, the royal chamberlain: “O wise one, the great king—your lord—desires to see you.” The episode underscores how, at a moment of mounting crisis, the ruler seeks counsel from a figure renowned for integrity and clear judgment.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even powerful rulers must seek and heed wise counsel; the narrative highlights the ethical necessity of consulting a dharmic advisor (Vidura) when decisions carry grave consequences for the realm.
After dispatching a messenger, Dhṛtarāṣṭra has Vidura summoned; the envoy approaches Vidura and conveys that the king wishes to meet him.
