Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds dharmic conduct in speech and governance: a responsible messenger answers truthfully and begins with auspicious welfare (anāmayatva) and steadiness of mind (manasvitva), emphasizing that ethical communication includes clarity, truthfulness, and concern for others’ well-being.

Sañjaya responds to Yudhiṣṭhira’s questions about the condition of the Kuru elders and others. He affirms that Yudhiṣṭhira’s inquiry is appropriate and reports that those eminent Kurus are healthy and in good spirits, setting the tone for conveying Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s message and the unfolding diplomacy before war.
