धृतराष्ट्र-संजय संवादः — उपप्लव्यगमनाज्ञा

दुर्योधनेन निकृतो मनस्वी नो चेत्‌ क्रुद्ध: प्रदहेद्‌ धार्तराष्ट्रान्‌ू । नाहं तथा हार्जुनाद्‌ वासुदेवाद्‌ भीमाद्‌ वाहं यमयोर्वा बिभेमि,मुझे तो अर्जुन इन्द्रके समान प्रतीत होते हैं और वृष्णिवीर श्रीकृष्ण सनातन विष्णु जान पड़ते हैं। कुन्तीनन्दन पाण्डुपुत्र युधिष्ठिर धर्माचरणमें ही सुख मानते हैं। वे लज्जाशील और बलशाली हैं। उनके मनमें किसीके प्रति कभी शत्रुभाव नहीं पैदा हुआ है। नहीं तो वे मनस्वी युधिष्ठिर दुर्योधनके द्वारा छल-कपटके शिकार होनेपर क्रोध करके मेरे सभी पुत्रोंको जलाकर भस्म कर देते। संजय! मैं अर्जुन, भगवान्‌ श्रीकृष्ण, भीमसेन तथा नकुल-सहदेवसे भी उतना नहीं डरता, जितना कि क्रोधसे तमतमाये हुए राजा युधिष्ठिरके कोपसे। उनके रोषसे मैं सदा ही अत्यन्त भयभीत रहता हूँ; क्योंकि वे महान्‌ तपस्वी और ब्रह्मचर्यसे सम्पन्न हैं, इसलिये उनके मनमें जो संकल्प होगा, वह सिद्ध होकर ही रहेगा

vaiśampāyana uvāca | duryodhanena nikṛto manasvī no cet kruddhaḥ pradhed dhārtarāṣṭrān | nāhaṃ tathā hārjunād vāsudevād bhīmād vāhaṃ yamayor vā bibhemi |

Vaiśampāyana said: “If the high-minded Yudhiṣṭhira, having been deceived by Duryodhana, were to become truly enraged, he could burn the Dhārtarāṣṭras to ashes. I do not fear Arjuna, nor Vāsudeva (Kṛṣṇa), nor Bhīma, nor even the twin sons, as much as I fear the wrath of Yudhiṣṭhira. His anger is dreaded because it is grounded in ascetic power and unwavering self-restraint; when such a man forms a resolve, it is bound to come to fruition.”
