Akṛtavraṇa uvāca: duḥkhadvayam idaṃ bhadre katarasya cikīrṣasi | pratikartavyam abale tat tvaṃ vatse vadasva me ||
Akṛtavraṇa said: “O noble lady, two sources of grief confront you. Against which of the two do you wish to seek redress? O helpless one, dear child—tell me whom you intend to answer, so that the response may be directed rightly.”
अकृतव्रण उवाच
The verse frames ethical action as requiring clarity of aim: when wronged in multiple ways, one must discern the true object of grievance and choose a deliberate, proportionate response rather than acting from undirected anguish.
Akṛtavraṇa questions Ambā, who has been harmed through two connected causes (associated with Bhīṣma and Śālva). He asks her to specify which party she seeks to confront or take revenge upon, so that the next step can be decided.
