एतद् बुद्धया विनिश्चित्य मनसा भरतर्षभ । यत् क्षमं ते महाबाहो तदिहारब्धुमहसि,“महाबाहु भरतश्रेष्ठ! अपनी बुद्धि और मनसे इस विषयमें निश्चित विचार करके तुम्हें जो उचित प्रतीत हो, वही करना चाहिये
etad buddhyā viniścitya manasā bharatarṣabha | yat kṣamaṃ te mahābāho tad ihārabdhum arhasi ||
Bhīṣma said: “O bull among the Bharatas, having carefully resolved this with your intellect and reflected upon it in your mind, O mighty-armed one, you should undertake here precisely what seems proper and fitting for you.”
भीष्म उवाच
One should act only after clear discernment and inner reflection, choosing what is truly fitting (kṣama) in the given situation—an ethic of responsible, dharma-aligned decision-making rather than impulsive action.
Bhīṣma, as an elder authority, concludes his counsel by urging the addressed Bharata hero/king to deliberate with both intellect and mind and then undertake the course of action that appears proper and justified.
