Bhishma–Dhritarashtra Dialogue: Appraisal of Pandava Strength
एष चारिषु विक्रान्त: कर्म सत्पुरुषोचितम् | कर्ता विमर्दे सुमहत् त्वदर्थे पुरुषोत्तम:
eṣa cāriṣu vikrāntaḥ karma satpuruṣocitam | kartā vimarde sumahat tvadarthe puruṣottamaḥ | puruṣaśreṣṭhaḥ satyavān śatrūṇām upari mahān parākramaṃ darśayiṣyati ||
Bhīṣma said: “This man is valiant in battle-array and performs deeds worthy of the noble. In the clash of war he will accomplish great exploits for your sake, O best of men. A foremost person, true to his word, he will display mighty prowess over the enemies.”
भीष्म उवाच
Noble action in war is framed as dharmic when it is satpuruṣocita (worthy of the good), grounded in satya (truthfulness/keeping one’s word), and directed toward rightful loyalty and duty.
Bhīṣma is commending a particular warrior’s character and battlefield capability, assuring the addressed leader that this person will perform great deeds in the coming conflict and overpower the enemies.
