Agni-hymn, discovery of Indra, and the Nahuṣa threat
त्वय्यापो निहिता: सर्वास्त्वयि सर्वमिदं जगत् । न ते>स्त्यविदितं किंचित् त्रिषु लोकेषु पावक,पावक! आपमें ही सारा जल संचित है। आपमें ही यह सम्पूर्ण जगत् प्रतिष्ठित है। तीनों लोकोंमें कोई ऐसी वस्तु नहीं है, जो आपको ज्ञात न हो
tvayy āpo nihitāḥ sarvāstvayi sarvam idaṃ jagat | na te 'sty aviditaṃ kiṃcit triṣu lokeṣu pāvaka pāvaka ||
O Pāvaka, all waters are contained within you, and upon you this entire world is established. Therefore, in the three worlds there is nothing whatsoever that is unknown to you.
शल्य उवाच
The verse presents Agni as a cosmic principle: all waters and the whole world are said to be contained in him, so nothing in the three worlds is hidden from him. Ethically, this elevates Agni as a truthful witness and purifier, suitable to be invoked when seeking justice, clarity, or the upholding of dharma.
Śalya is addressing Agni (Pāvaka) in a reverential invocation, praising his all-pervading nature and omniscience. Such praise typically precedes a request, vow, or appeal, establishing the deity’s authority to know the truth and to act as a moral guarantor.
