kṛṣṇa uvāca | uktavān asmi yad vākyaṃ dharmārthasahitaṃ hitam | na tu tat nikṛtiprajñe kauravye prate tiṣṭhati ||

Krishna said: I have spoken words that are beneficial, grounded in dharma and sound policy. Yet they do not take root in the mind of that Kaurava, Duryodhana, whose intellect is skilled only in deceit and stratagem.

Educational Q&A

Ethically grounded counsel (dharma) aligned with practical welfare (artha) benefits everyone, but it cannot influence a mind committed to deception; moral advice requires receptivity and integrity to take root.

In the peace-effort context of the Udyoga Parva, Krishna reflects that his beneficial, dharma-and-artha-based words fail to settle in the Kaurava leader’s mind—pointing to Duryodhana’s entrenched deceit and resistance to reconciliation.
