Adhyāya 152: Kaurava-sainyavibhāgaḥ
Division and Standardization of the Kaurava Host
इति श्रीमहाभारते उद्योगपर्वणि सैन्यनिर्याणपर्वणि दुर्योधनसैन्यसज्जकरणे त्रिपठड्चाशदधिकशततमो<ध्याय:
iti śrīmahābhārate udyogaparvaṇi sainyaniryāṇaparvaṇi duryodhanasainyasajjakaraṇe tripaṭpañcāśadadhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ
Thus ends, in the Śrī Mahābhārata, within the Udyoga Parva—specifically in the section on the army’s departure—the chapter describing Duryodhana’s preparations and mustering of his forces: the one hundred and fifty-third chapter. This colophon marks the formal close of the narrative unit, underscoring the irreversible movement toward war through deliberate mobilization and choice.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction; it highlights the ethical weight of deliberate preparation for violence—mobilization is not accidental but chosen, and such choices propel society toward irreversible consequences.
The text formally closes a chapter in the Udyoga Parva that deals with Duryodhana’s army being readied and set in motion, signaling that negotiations have effectively given way to organized war preparations.
