Kaurava Mobilization at Kurukṣetra (Duryodhana Orders War Preparations) / कुरुक्षेत्रे धार्तराष्ट्र-सैन्यसज्जा
फल्गु यच्च बल॑ किंचिद् यच्चापि कृशदुर्बलम् । तत् संगृह ययौ राजा ये चापि परिचारका:
phalgu yac ca balaṁ kiñcid yac cāpi kṛśa-durbalam | tat saṅgṛhya yayau rājā ye cāpi paricārakāḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana said: The king gathered up whatever troops were insignificant in strength, as well as those who were lean and weak, and also the attendants; having assembled them, he set out for Upaplavya. The passage underscores prudent leadership: even the marginal and vulnerable are not discarded but organized and carried along in the collective movement toward safety and duty.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Responsible kingship includes organizing and safeguarding even those of little strength—weak soldiers and attendants—rather than abandoning them; dharma is shown through inclusive protection and orderly preparation.
Yudhiṣṭhira assembles the less capable troops and the household/retinue and then departs for Upaplavya, indicating a strategic relocation and consolidation of people before the larger conflict.
