Udyoga Parva 142: Vidura’s warning to Kuntī and Kuntī’s resolve to meet Karṇa
Gaṅgātīra encounter begins
tava cāpi mayā kṛṣṇa svapnānte rudhirāvilā | antreṇa pṛthivī dṛṣṭā parikṣiptā janārdana ||
Sañjaya said: “O Krishna, O Janardana—at the end of my dream I also saw this very earth, smeared with blood and wrapped about with entrails.”

The verse functions as a moral warning: when leaders abandon dharma and pursue conflict, the consequence is not merely victory or defeat but the defilement of the whole world through mass suffering. The gruesome imagery underscores the ethical cost of war and the urgency of restraint and righteous counsel.
Sanjaya reports an ominous dream-vision to Krishna, describing the earth as blood-smeared and entangled with entrails. In the Udyoga Parva context—on the eve of the Kurukshetra war—such visions serve as portents indicating impending large-scale slaughter and calamity.
