मातोवाच अतो मे भूयसी नन्दिर्यदेवमनुपश्यसि । चोद्यं मां चोदयस्येतद् भृशं वै चोदयामि ते
mātovāca ato me bhūyasī nandir yadevam anupaśyasi | codyaṃ māṃ codayasy etad bhṛśaṃ vai codayāmi te ||
The mother said: “Therefore my joy is all the greater, since you perceive matters in this way. You urge me with this counsel; and I, in turn, strongly urge you—act upon it.”
पुत्र उवाच
Right understanding should lead to decisive action: when one clearly perceives what is proper, exhortation is not mere speech but a call to follow through, and elders reinforce that resolve.
In a dialogue between mother and son, the mother expresses increased happiness that the son understands correctly, acknowledges that he is urging her with a certain counsel, and then emphatically urges him in return to act accordingly.
