Krishna’s Theophanic Display in the Kuru Assembly
taṁ na buddhyasi govinda ghoravikramam acyutam | āśīviṣam iva kruddhaṁ tejorāśim aninditam ||
Vidura warns that you do not truly understand Govinda, the unfailing Acyuta, whose prowess is terrible when roused. In anger he is like a venomous serpent—fearsome and unstoppable—yet he is a blameless mass of splendor, praised by the good.
Do not mistake the restraint of a righteous and powerful person for incapacity. When dharma is threatened, even the gentle may become formidable; provoking such a force invites consequences.
Vidura is cautioning the Kuru side that they fail to grasp Kṛṣṇa’s true nature and power. He portrays Kṛṣṇa as blameless and revered, yet terrifying when angered—implying that opposing him (and the dharmic cause he supports) is perilous.
