Shloka 8
अध्याय १२२ — कृष्णस्य दुर्योधनं प्रति नीत्युपदेशः
Kṛṣṇa’s Ethical Counsel to Duryodhana
पुनस्त्वयैव राजर्षे सुकृतेन विधातितम् । आवूृतं तमसा चेत: सर्वेषां स्वर्गवासिनाम्
punas tvayaiva rājarṣe sukṛtena vidhātitam | āvṛtaṃ tamasā cetaḥ sarveṣāṃ svargavāsinām ||
Again, O royal seer, it was by your own meritorious act that this came to pass: the minds of all the dwellers in heaven were veiled in darkness, so that they did not recognize you. Unknown to all, you were therefore made to fall from heaven. Later, your daughter’s sons, moved by affection, rescued and restored you, and thus you have returned here once more.

Even accumulated merit can be nullified or redirected by egoistic conduct: pride invites tamas (delusion) that obscures discernment in oneself and others, leading to loss of status and spiritual decline; humility and loving support can help restore one’s path.
Nārada explains to a royal sage that, due to the sage’s own action, the minds of the heavenly beings were clouded by tamas and they failed to recognize him; as a result he fell from heaven. Subsequently, his daughter’s sons, acting with affection, helped him regain his position and return.
