Saying, “So be it,” the foremost of Brahmins handed the maiden over to the king. The king, in accordance with proper rites and lawful procedure, accepted the maiden in marriage.
दिवोदास उवाच
The verse highlights dharma through procedure: even when outcomes are agreed upon, legitimacy and ethical order are maintained by following prescribed rites (vidhi), especially in matters like marriage and royal alliances.
An eminent Brahmin assents (“tathā”) and gives a maiden to the king; the king then formally accepts her according to proper ritual and lawful custom, indicating a sanctioned marriage arrangement.
