अभिमन्युविलापः (Abhimanyu-vilāpa) — Uttarā’s lament, observed and framed by Gandhārī
āryām ārya subhadrāṃ tvam imāṃś ca tridaśopamān | pitṝn māṃ caiva duḥkhārtā vihāya kva gamiṣyasi ||
Vaiśampāyana said: “O noble lady, leaving mother Subhadrā, leaving these revered elders who are like the gods, leaving the fathers (the senior kinsmen), and leaving me as well—a wife stricken with grief—where will you go?”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
In the midst of bereavement, the verse underscores dharma as steadiness within family bonds: elders deserve reverence, and the grief-stricken household seeks mutual support rather than abandonment.
During the mourning of the Stree Parva, a grief-stricken speaker addresses Subhadrā, questioning where she intends to go if she leaves behind the godlike elders and the sorrowing family members, emphasizing the emotional and social rupture such departure would cause.
