Thus, observing the harshest—indeed ever harsher—discipline prescribed in the scriptures for forest-dwelling ascetics, I shall wait for the ending of this body’s span. In this resolve, Yudhiṣṭhira frames endurance and self-restraint as an ethical response: not escape, but a deliberate acceptance of austere dharma until life naturally concludes.
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse teaches steadfast adherence to prescribed dharma through austerity and restraint: one should follow the disciplined path appropriate to one’s chosen life-stage or vow, enduring hardship without impatience, and accept the natural end of life without forcing it.
Yudhiṣṭhira speaks of his resolve to live by the strict rules laid down for forest-dwelling ascetics, committing himself to severe observances and to patiently await the completion of his bodily lifespan.
