अत्राप्युदाहरन्तीममितिहासं पुरातनम् । ऐलकश्यपसंवादं तन्निबोध युधिछिर,इस विषयमें राजा पुरूरवा और महर्षि कश्यपके संवादरूप प्राचीन इतिहासका उदाहरण दिया करते हैं। युधिष्ठिर! तुम उसे सुनो
atrāpy udāharantīmam itihāsaṃ purātanam | ailakaśyapasaṃvādaṃ tan nibodha yudhiṣṭhira ||
Here too they cite an ancient historical exemplar: the dialogue between King Purūravas of the Aila line and the sage Kaśyapa. O Yudhiṣṭhira, listen to it—so that this matter may be understood through precedent and instruction.
भीष्म उवाच
Bhīṣma frames moral instruction through itihāsa—an authoritative precedent—indicating that dharma is clarified not only by abstract rules but also by exemplary narratives and dialogues of revered figures.
Bhīṣma tells Yudhiṣṭhira that, for the issue under discussion, an ancient example is traditionally cited: a conversation between King Purūravas (Aila) and the sage Kaśyapa, and he invites Yudhiṣṭhira to listen attentively.
